I am a 39 year old mother of three from Texas. I have been in and out of the dentist since I got my first little tooth buds! Both my mother and father lost their teeth at a very early age and I was right behind them. I was never into drugs and I probably took better care of my teeth than anybody I know. It was simply a matter of genetics. Now, I am by no means living in poverty, but as an "average" American, I was literally powerless to do anything about my situation.

I'm not a vain person, but I believe that confidence says a lot about a person and can determine the course of your life. I had to DO something...ANYTHING!  I didn't have time for gimmicks. I was so desperate, I even went so far as to make my own plastic coverings to cover up my teeth! I don't recommend that. It made my teeth rot faster and it smelled horrendous! To make matters worse I was in a LOT of pain. I started researching pain relief and discovered thousands of people in forums that were going through the same thing with no help in sight.

I created the site as a self-help place to go for pain relief. I began getting literally hundreds and hundreds of emails for help and it absolutely broke my heart. I knew what I needed to do. I spent three long years researching dentists that would provide pro bono work or at the very least extremely low prices and sliding scale fees to those that truly need help.

I'm glad I didn't give up. I actually discovered things that are NOT common knowledge. There is still so much that needs to be done, but there is help. I'm not trying to extort money from anyone or make outrageous claims. Although low cost and free dentistry is available to seniors and children more readily, it is much harder for the rest of us. We all read a lot of JUNK on the Internet and I can honestly say I have contributed something worthwhile. I can't say that I have all the answers, but I do have a great deal to share! It will always be a work in progress!

The directory and website are not "gimmicks" or "traps" to get you to buy something else. There are no "come ons" or anything you need to pay for after reading it. I created it to be readily available to everyone. If you can't afford to buy the directory, I will GIVE it to you. If you can afford it, please do so and contribute to the upkeep! God Bless!

in response to wanttosmileLAW...   Hello. As if being a single mother is not tough enough:). I knew Medicaid would provide extractions, but I also thought they would provide one set of dentures? Nonetheless, the best bet is to shop around for dentures. Check nearby clinics and dental schools. In addition, consider working a deal with any nearby dentist in exchange for office cleanings, etc. Take care and God Bless!

Hi..I am a single mother of boys, I am a victim of inadequate dental insurance as a youth and am having to pay for it now at only 36. I have been on Medicaid since my early 20's and the only service they provided were extractions, so when I had issues with a rotten tooth and could no longer deal with the pain, the only option given where to pull them out. Well needless to say, since I could not afford preventative dental care like cleanings, fillings, filling repair..etc, I have ended up with only five front teeth at the top and three of those are rotting out. This has really compromised my self-confidence and not to mention it hard to get a job with this condition, especially when it's the first thing potential employers look at, during your first meet, or interview. Any information of what I can do or where I can look would greatly be appreciated.

in response to getfreedental...   Thanks for your concern.
Right now I'm desperate need of dental work and would love to have some dental implants but do not have the funds nor insurance to do so.
I would be humbly grateful if you could in anyway assist in the way and means of helping to make this delightful reality for me. "I really miss public speaking and have been robed of romance.

You know I see all this writting about see a dentist, and they should be able to do this and that, the dentist are just as bad as anyone else. No one wants to see, hear or bother with you if you don't have money. All these doctors, DENTISTS, lawyers, etc, have one goal, to make their expensive car payment and keep America snaggle tooth and hurting. It's a shame, Oh there's free money, but first jump through this hoop and 50 others..GET REAL AMERICA, IT'S A CROCK OF BULL....

in response to pain and shambles...   Hello ... Southern CA is no joke on cost of living:). Try to get a free exam by contacting a local dentist and letting them know that you are looking for a new dentist and would like a free examine if possible. You might be surprised to find that someone might invite you in for a free exam. Dentist want you almost as much as your want them depending on the situation. Take care and God Bless!

in response to getfreedental...   Hello Amanda and everbody,
I am in Amanda's exact same situation. I have already called churches and charities and all are no help. I am in Southern California.

Catch 22 situations are rough. Nobody will hire me due to my lack of teeth that is now hindering my speech and smile. No job equals no money. I have been unemployed for 3 years now and things are getting worse by the minute.
Free clinics have a waiting list that is a few years long and many only offer preventative maintenance. Sliding scale clinics is my only hope, yet, I do not even have the $3--45 they ask for the initial exam & xrays.
I have lost my home, car, storage unit, everything. If there is any help out there.... please.... help me. Help us....

in response to dentaldrama...   Hi Amanda ... you are in a catch 22:) Unfortunately, I have seen this many times before. Sounds like you have done your research as well. I suspect you have been to a dentist who has advised you to have full extractions, dentures, etc.? If so, nice work. You know what you are facing and have taken a step in the right direction. If not, please visit any local dentist for an eval. Most will offer a free eval so it should not cost you.

Most clinics will offer a sliding scale service but some will offer services completely free. Most clinics will base fees on income and if you make something, you will pay something. Unfortunately, you need something to live on which leaves nothing for the dentist ... starting to sound like a cat in the hat story:) Call, call, and call some more. Call the clinics before you go and be persistent. I have a huge list of clinics and it continues to grow daily since it is now community supported. In addition, check with local churches. Most churches will have a list of good resources, etc. Take care and God Bless!

in response to dogeatdog...   According to them I'm not eligible for Mass health because I make too much money. Even when I was on unemployment for a brief time I made too much. Not sure where they get their chart from as I can barely survive off the little $ I do make. And if I was eligible for mass health it wouldn't be totally covered. I'd still need to pay a couple grand.

Hi, My names Amanda and as much as I hate asking for help, I feel like I've exhausted all of my options. I'm 25 and in need of major dental work. I need full extractions and dentures. This is due to acid reflux, dry mouth, and me taking terrible care of my teeth when I was younger. I have gone to dental schools which have averaged about $7,000 for work and also dental clinics which have averaged about $2,000 for work. I have terrible credit and am supporting myself on a small salary. I can barely eat and am in constant pain, which seems to only get worse. I live in MA and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

in response to pkking01...   Medicaid can be tough to get. Are your top teeth good?

in response to getfreedental...   No I do not have medicaid, and the bottom is the only place that I have to have the remaining teeth removed. Not many there now and will need dentures of some type for the bottom only. I live in Olympia, Washington so not sure if thee is anyone near by as well.

in response to pkking01...   Hello ... do you qualify for Medicaid? If so, the process of getting teeth pulled and fitted for dentures becomes a bit more simplified. If not, seek nearby dental clinics and/or dental schools for the extractions. Extractions can be more affordable than most people think. Dentures become a different story:) Take it one step at a time. Is it just the bottom or does the top need help as well? Take care and God Bless!

Hi I live in Olympia,Washington and I have had so much dental work due to medical issues and medications I am on. At this time I have 7 1/4 teeth total on the bottom. 3 which need to come out and at this point should have them all removed. I would also be looking for dentures which I know are not cheap and living on unemployment with my boys I can't afford this. I am having a hard time just paying bills as they keep stacking up more and more. Please does anyone know where I can go and get the rest of my teeth pulled and get dentures.

in response to substitute_in_need...   Hello ... hang in there! Unfortunately, you are not alone. A good portion of the people I've helped have been unemployed for many years and have nothing. This makes the option to receive Medicaid much easier. The system falls apart when someone tries to better themselves and makes something above nothing but something far short of liveable:)

Consider seeking a free evaluation. Many people ask how they can get a free evaluation. This is relatively straight forward ... called a few local dentists and let them know that you need a bunch of work. Let them know that you are considering a new dentist and would like a free evaluation. Once you have been evaluated, you will have a baseline to know what is needed. Once you know what is needed, shop around.

Hope this information helps! Take care and God Bless!
